Extension Privacy Policy

This page describes what the HiringCoachAI Job Importer Chrome extension ("the extension") reads, sends, and stores. It covers the extension specifically. For how HiringCoachAI handles data in your account generally, see the HiringCoachAI Privacy Notice.

What the extension reads, and when

The extension reads a page's content, or sends anything from it, only when you take an action, with one automatic exception: while you are signed in, opening a LinkedIn job page checks that page's URL against your tracker (see the linkedin.com bullet below). It never navigates LinkedIn pages on its own, in the foreground or in the background.

• Clicking the toolbar icon (or pressing Alt+Shift+H) on any job posting page reads that page's job title, company, location, description text, and page URL (or your highlighted text instead, if you have text selected). This uses Chrome's activeTab permission, which only grants access to the tab you are currently viewing, only after you click the icon or use the shortcut.
• Right-clicking selected text on any page and choosing "Save selected text to HiringCoachAI" sends that selection to the same job-import flow, for pages the extension does not otherwise know how to read.
• On linkedin.com job pages, a content script adds a "Save to HiringCoachAI" button. While you are signed in, opening the page automatically sends its URL to HiringCoachAI to check whether that job is already saved in your tracker, so the button can show "View in HiringCoachAI" instead; this is the one per-page check the extension makes without a click.
• On any LinkedIn profile page, clicking the toolbar icon first reads only the top card (name, headline, location, current company) that is already visible, to determine whose profile it is. It then sends that profile's URL and the current company to HiringCoachAI to show whether you already imported it or saved it as a contact, and which of your saved jobs are at that company. Nothing is stored by this check.
• On your own LinkedIn profile page, after that top-card check confirms it, the toolbar icon also reads the profile sections visible on that page (such as experience, education, and skills). If a section is truncated, the extension never opens or navigates to its "Show all" page for you. Instead, when you open that page yourself, a content script shows an in-page "Add this list to HiringCoachAI" button; nothing is read from it until you click that button.
• On someone else's LinkedIn profile page, the extension never reads beyond the top card without your explicit action. "Save as a contact" reads only the top card fields already visible on the page: name, headline, current company, location, and the profile URL. It does not read their experience, education, skills, or contact info, and it never opens their "Contact info" dialog. You see a consent line describing exactly this before anything is saved.

Other than the automatic LinkedIn job-URL check described above, the extension does not run in the background on pages you have not interacted with, does not read your browsing history, and does not collect data from any site other than the page you act on and linkedin.com. It never signs in to LinkedIn on your behalf, never reads or sends your LinkedIn session or cookies, and never loads LinkedIn pages in the background or in hidden frames; it only reads pages shown in your tab after you click or, for the job-URL check, open a linkedin.com job page while signed in.

What gets sent to hiringcoach.ai

When you click "Save to HiringCoachAI" on a job posting (or use the right-click "Save selected text" option or the Alt+Shift+H shortcut), the extracted job title, company, location, description text, and page URL are sent to https://hiringcoach.ai/api/extension/jobs/import, which creates a job entry in your own HiringCoachAI job tracker. HiringCoachAI's servers clean up and structure that text using AI as part of creating the entry.

On linkedin.com, the current job page's URL is sent to https://hiringcoach.ai/api/extension/jobs/lookup while you are signed in, so the extension can tell you whether that job is already in your tracker.

When you click the toolbar icon on a LinkedIn profile page, that profile's URL and the current company shown on it are sent to https://hiringcoach.ai/api/linkedin/profile-lookup to check whether it is already in your account and to list your saved jobs at that company.

When you import a LinkedIn profile page, the extracted profile data is sent to https://hiringcoach.ai/api/linkedin/import-profile. Where it goes in your account depends on what you chose:

• If you chose "This is my profile", the data is stored on your own account and used as the starting point for your LinkedIn Profile Recommendations.
• If you chose "Save as a contact", only the top card fields described above (name, headline, current company, location, and profile link) are stored as a networking contact in your private HiringCoachAI contacts, optionally linked to a job you have saved at that company if you chose to link it. It is not shared with that person or with any other HiringCoachAI user.

The extension also sends product-analytics events, such as "job saved" or "profile imported", to HiringCoachAI, which processes them using PostHog to understand how the extension is used. These events carry only the event name and coarse properties (for example, which site you were on, an error code, or how long an action took) and never the content of the page you were viewing.

Nothing the extension reads is sent anywhere other than https://hiringcoach.ai.

Signing in and local storage

Signing in links the extension to your existing HiringCoachAI account through a secure sign-in flow (Chrome's chrome.identity.launchWebAuthFlow, or the /extension/connect page). The extension never asks for or sees your HiringCoachAI password. After you sign in, an access token and refresh token identifying your account are stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local), so you do not have to sign in every time. If you are already signed in to hiringcoach.ai in this browser, the extension may link itself to that account automatically when it is installed or when Chrome starts, unless you signed out of the extension. It sends these tokens only to https://hiringcoach.ai to authorize your requests, and never shares them with other websites.

Clicking "Sign out" in the extension popup removes these tokens from local storage immediately.

What we don't do

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising or ad targeting, and we do not use it to make credit or lending decisions. The extension does not download or run any code that is not packaged in the extension itself.

Retention and deletion

Jobs and LinkedIn profile imports (both your own profile and any contacts you save) become part of your HiringCoachAI account data and follow the same retention rules as the rest of your tracker and contacts: you can delete an individual job, imported profile, or contact at any time, and deleting your HiringCoachAI account removes this data along with the rest of your account.
